Workshops for Children: HiJinks!hijinks_Logo

Feb Half Term 2017

February Half Term 2017: Lovely Bugs and Ugly Slugs

A wonderful two days of creepy crawlies and an enormous, super worm! Butterflies in abundance fluttered in a kaleidoscope of colour, sock puppets slugs and caterpillars took to the puppet stage and bees, slugs, an evil lizard and a toad took to the main stage for a fabulous performance on our second day. See the photos in the Gallery.

Easter 2016: Dragons, Knights and Princesses

Another successful HiJinks completed with Dragons, Knights and Princesses everywhere! We made swords, shields, helmets, crowns, puppet dragons, a huge dragon; we had several mass sword fights, en-acted two stories and performed a showcase for friends and families on the last day. See all the photos in the Gallery.

What parents have said about HiJinks:

“For my child this was out of his comfort zone and something he had never tried before. He had a fantastic time, could not wait to go the second day and we would definitely book again”

“My son thoroughly enjoyed his time at HiJinks. Previously he has been reluctant to take part in events away from school or without me there. He found it great fun … he went off very happily every morning.”

“My son really enjoyed the 3 days with you, he thoroughly enjoyed doing the performances and making new friends – thank you!”

“…she loved it and really would have liked to do it all! Very professional staff, fun and engaging activities. Brilliant.”

“Cheryl and her helper gave so much of themselves to preparation and execution of the  six days … Amelie is 8 years old and was well entertained and able to participate. Thanks. We will see you again I’m sure.”

HiJinks! Into the Jungle & Giants and Goblins

You can see some of the photos from last year in the gallery.

Last summer we ran, Into the Jungle: three fun-packed days of activities! With high energy team games, brain teasers, mask making, puppetry and storytelling plus singing, dancing and acting. We brought creatures to life and acted out tales, inspired The Lion King and Rudyard Kipling’s Just So stories. The ‘school’ ended with a showcase on the last day for families.

The second summer school was themed Giants and Goblins.  We stomped like Giants, and played like Goblins! Each day children took part in games, singing, dancing and acting as well as craft activities. We enacted a story inspired by myths, fairytales and movies, bringing characters to life and making huge masks and puppets for a final performance on the last day of ‘The Giant’s Tears’.

Primary School Drama

After-school clubs and productions

We offer drama classes for primary age children through after school drama clubs and workshops, regularly directing shows with the children. Cheryl currently delivers an after school club at Nailsworth Primary and St Dominic’s CompositeHiJinksPrimary Schools in Gloucestershire.

The clubs are an hour to an hour and half long and are focused on storytelling and characterisation. Drama is easily accessible to all ages and the younger children start, the more confident they can become in communicating and expressing themselves.  This healthy pursuit keeps your children active and engages their minds and bodies. Through performing with a mixed age group, children develop social confidence, new communication skills and physical awareness.

The club involves drama games, songs, dances, role plays and script work. It is possible to work towards an end of term production. Cheryl has written original plays for children to perform as well as having adapted several stories to make them suitable for the infant school (KS1) age group. Productions include: The Nutcracker, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grinch, The Giant’s Tears and How the Monkeys Found Misery.

Stand-alone half and full day workshops can be booked for primary age children. These can be tailored to support any of your curriculum needs whether it’s for literacy, history, geography, science or P.S.H.E.

If you would like to book a primary school workshop or an after school drama club, please contact us to find out more and discuss your requirements.
