Workshops for Children
HiJinks! is the name for our children’s workshops. Cheryl runs regular weekly sessions for children at local schools in Gloucestershire and for the past few years has been running extended craft & drama holiday clubs.
Our holiday clubs are always themed and focus on the craft of theatre. Aimed at children from 6 to 11 years, these intensive and fun sessions engage the children in all the activities involved in putting on a show: improvisation, storytelling, dancing, singing, acting, making props, scenery and costumes.
After school drama clubs run for both KS1 and KS2 age children focused on developing confidence, agility, communication skills and team work.
We have frequently delivered tailored workshop packages for schools, often to tie in with Creative Arts Weeks or tailored to support curriculum needs (literacy, history, geography, science or P.S.H.E). Using skills such as clowning, mask work, characterisation, mime, storytelling and physical theatre, we have explored a range of specific topics, such as Italian life, Folk Tales, the Olympics and Great Inventions.
Are you looking for Creative Arts Week activities? Or managing an arts centre? Perhaps you are programming holiday activities? HiJinks! can be booked to run single or multiple days for your venue at very reasonable rates, tailored to your needs to support your curriculum.

What parents have said about HiJinks!:
“He had a fantastic time, could not wait to go the second day and we would definitely book again”
“My son thoroughly enjoyed his time at HiJinks. Previously he has been reluctant to take part in events away from school or without me there. He found it great fun … he went off very happily every morning.”
“My son really enjoyed the 3 days with you, he thoroughly enjoyed doing the performances and making new friends – thank you!”
“…she loved it and really would have liked to do it all! Very professional staff, fun and engaging activities. Brilliant.”
“Cheryl and her helper gave so much of themselves to preparation and execution of the six days … Amelie is 8 years old and was well entertained and able to participate. Thanks. We will see you again I’m sure.”
These are some of our most popular themed holiday clubs that we have run over the past few years:
Lovely Bugs and Ugly Slugs
Dragons, Knights and Princesses
Galloping Knights, Stunning Princesses and Fiery Dragons in abundance! We made swords, shields, helmets, crowns, puppet dragons and a huge animated dragon! Children learnt some real sword wielding skills, en-acted two stories – one in honor of St George’s Day – and performed a brilliant showcase for friends and families on the last day. See all the photos in the Gallery.
Into the Jungle
We stormed Into the Jungle to meet some very greedy monkeys, as well as giraffes, zebras and leopards. We brought creatures to life, made masks, puppets and costumes and acted out tales on our final day, inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s Just So story, How the Leopard got his Spots and a Caribbean folk tale How the Monkey Found Misery.
Giants and Goblins
Our Giants and Goblins summer school saw us stomping like Giants, and playing like Goblins! Each day children took part in games, singing, dancing and acting as well as craft activities. We enacted a story inspired by myths, fairytales and movies, bringing characters to life and making huge masks and puppets for a final performance on the last day of ‘The Giant’s Tears’, an original play written by Cheryl.
After-school clubs and productions
We offer drama classes for primary age children through after school drama clubs and workshops, regularly directing shows with the children. Cheryl currently delivers an after school club at Nailsworth Primary and St Dominic’s Primary Schools in Gloucestershire.
The clubs are an hour long and are focused on storytelling and characterisation. Drama is easily accessible to all ages and the younger children start, the more confident they can become in communicating and expressing themselves. This healthy pursuit keeps your children active and engages their minds and bodies. Through performing with a mixed age group, children develop social confidence, new communication skills and physical awareness.
The club involves drama games, songs, dances, role plays and script work. We regularly work towards an end of term production. Cheryl has written original plays for children to perform as well as having adapted several stories to make them suitable for the infant school (KS1) age group. Productions include: The Nutcracker, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grinch, The Giant’s Tears, How the Monkeys Found Misery, The Witches.
